elk rapids — Pearl's New Orleans Kitchen will host the Elk Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, at 617 Ames St.
elk rapids — The Elk Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce is offering all community organizations an opportunity to participate in the Community Wide Awards Dinner.
The event is scheduled during Volunteer Week on Friday, April 26, upstairs at Turtle Creek Casino.
Any community organizations may participate and present their organization's awards including person of the year, outstanding volunteer or scholarship recipients.
To make a presentation, contact the Chamber by Jan. 31.
Tickets are available through the Chamber website, www.elkrapidschamber.org, or in person at the Chamber with check or credit card.
A cash bar will open at 6 p.m. with dinner at 7. Dinner tickets are $45 per person, or $425 for a table of 10.

Zonta award apps
tRAVERSE CITY — Applications for the 2013 Young Women in Public Affairs $1,000 Award are now available from the Zonta Club of Traverse City at zontatc.org.
The goal of the YWPA Program is to encourage more young women to participate in public and political life by recognizing a young woman's (age 16-19) commitment to volunteer leadership activities and a dedication to the advancement of the status of women.

Best Buy grant
GLEN LAKE — Glen Lake Community Schools has received a $5,000 Community Grant from Best Buy Co., Inc.
Best Buy leaders at the Traverse City location selected Glen Lake Community Schools from submitted proposal requests.
The school system was recognized for dedication to closing the digital divide for teens by providing them with access to technology, helping them excel in school and develop 21st-century workforce skills.
This year, Best Buy Children's Foundation will give $2.75 million through the Community Grants Program.

traverse city — Northwestern Michigan College's Extended Education will offer four business learning opportunities in February.
"Starting a Business in Northern Michigan' will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 5 and covers essential issues for first-time entrepreneurs.
Learn where to find start-up money in "Lending Sources for Small Business" from 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 19.
Protect yourself and gain a better understanding of Internet sales and marketing in "Bringing Your Business Online Legally," from 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 21.
"Bookkeeping for Small Business," meeting four evenings beginning Feb. 26, will get you on the right track with accounting.
