ELK RAPIDS — The Elk Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce May “Business after Hours” will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 16.

Host is the Short’s Brewing Company production facility at 211 Industrial Park Drive in Elk Rapids.

NorthSky workshop

TRAVERSE CITY — NorthSky Nonprofit Network will sponsor a professional development session for nonprofit organizations, "Whose Job is it Anyway," from noon to 1:30 p.m., on Thursday, May 16, at the Northwestern Michigan College University Center campus.

The session will be led by Pamela Evans, NorthSky Consultant, and focuses on the working relationships between the board and staff of a nonprofit organization. Topics include board and staff roles; best practices of effective boards; the board chair and executive director relationship; and how to strengthen the effectiveness of the nonprofit leadership team.

The workshop is designed for current and prospective board chairs, board members executive directors and managers. Fee is $12. Participants are invited to bring a lunch. Registration is required by contacting or 929-3934.

FRANKFORT — The Benzie County Chamber of Commerce May Business After Hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, May 16 at Maxwell's on Main.

Interviewing skills

TRAVERSE CITY — NorthSky Nonprofit Network is hosting a professional development session, "Interviewing and Selection for a Successful New Hire," on Tuesday, May 14, from noon to 1:30 pm at the Manistee Intermediate School District, 772 E. Parkdale (US 31) in room A.

The session is co-sponsored by the Manistee County Human Services Collaborative Body and is led by Richard Morency of TruNorth Compass Group, LLC. It focuses on recruiting and selecting talent for a nonprofit organization. Discussion topics include how to review resumes, job applications and cover letters in screening job applicants; how to develop interview questions and how to orchestrate interview sessions (including identifying the best interview team) to ensure a successful selection process. The session is designed for beginning to advanced nonprofit leadership.
