TC Chamber announces Top 10 small businesses

TRAVERSE CITY — The Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce has named the Top 10 finalists in its 2013 Small Business Celebration.

More than 30 companies had applied for the recognition after being nominated to take part in the program, which highlights the role that small business plays in the region's economy. The finalists include Bay Area Contracting Inc.; Brilliant Books; Cartridge World; Cherry Capital Foods LLC; Grand Traverse Distillery; Kalkaska Screw Products Inc.; Keen Technical Solutions LLC; Pathway Homes; Signs Now; and Stromberg Carlson Products Inc.

In the next few weeks, SBC judges will conduct site visits to the 10 finalists to gain a deeper understanding of their operations and meet employees as the selection process to identify the recipient of the 2013 Hagerty Small Business of the Year Award continues. The finalists will also be feted at a Meet the Top 10 Breakfast on May 8 at 7:30 a.m. at Northwestern Michigan College’s Hagerty Center. This year's winning company will be unveiled May 29 at the SBC Awards Ceremony at 4:30 p.m. at the Hagerty Center.

The Small Business Celebration dates to 2005, created to highlight the critical role that small business plays in Northern Michigan’s economy. Plascon of Traverse City, a specialty plastic packaging company serving the food service, institutional, pharmaceutical and bulk packaging industries, was the 2012 recipient.
