Name released of mine worker who died

MARQUETTE — The name of a worker who died after falling from a train car at Tilden Mine in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula has been released.

The Mining Journal of Marquette reports 61-year-old Gary Hytinen, of Ishpeming, was working Friday afternoon in an unloading area when he apparently fell from a railroad tanker car to the ground. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Official cause of death is pending. Cleveland-based Cliffs Natural Resources, which operates the Marquette County mine, and the United Steelworkers Union are investigating the death. The Mine Safety and Health Administration also is investigating.

The mine is located west of Marquette and produces iron ore pellets.
