Name released of mine worker who died
MARQUETTE — The name of a worker who died after falling from a train car at Tilden Mine in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula has been released.
The Mining Journal of Marquette reports 61-year-old Gary Hytinen, of Ishpeming, was working Friday afternoon in an unloading area when he apparently fell from a railroad tanker car to the ground. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Official cause of death is pending. Cleveland-based Cliffs Natural Resources, which operates the Marquette County mine, and the United Steelworkers Union are investigating the death. The Mine Safety and Health Administration also is investigating.
The mine is located west of Marquette and produces iron ore pellets.
Average Michigan gas price is $3.23
DEARBORN — AAA Michigan says gasoline prices have risen about 1 cent during the past week to a statewide average of about $3.23 per gallon.
The auto club says Monday the average is about 21 cents per gallon less than this time last year.
Of the cities it surveys, AAA Michigan says the cheapest price for self-serve unleaded fuel is in the Traverse City area, where it’s about $3.19 a gallon. The highest average is in the Benton Harbor area at about $3.27 a gallon.
Dearborn-based AAA Michigan surveys 2,800 Michigan gas stations daily.
