Career Connections

TRAVERSE CITY — Job seekers will have the chance to learn about job opportunities and improve their job search skills by getting involved with Career Connection at 2 p.m. on Thursdays beginning Sept. 5, at the Career Café, located inside the Northwest Michigan Works! Traverse City Service Center at 1209 S. Garfield Ave.

Career Connection provides “mini training” for approximately 30 minutes. Michigan Works! staff will be available afterward to provide career advising.

The Sept. 5 Career Connection will focus on networking. Topics for future sessions include job search, resumes and cover letters. The meetings are open to all job seekers and there is no charge to attend.

Career Connection also meets from 9 to 10 a.m. on Wednesdays beginning Sept. 11 in Elk Rapids.

Job fair scheduled

CHARLEVOIX — Northwest Michigan Works! is partnering with Oliver Racing Parts for an on-site job fair at the company’s Charlevoix plant. The job fair will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 5 and 8 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Sept. 7 at 5339 M-66 North.

Oliver Racing Parts manufactures lightweight, durable connecting rods that help engine builders achieve extreme horsepower.

The company is looking for skilled people for the following positions: accounting/administrative, CNC machinists, inside sales, machine operators, maintenance and quality control.

Job fair attendees should bring their current resume and come prepared to complete an application for employment.

Oliver Racing staff will be on-site to answer questions and conduct mini-interviews for specific positions with candidates who show experience applicable to current open jobs.

The company requires a background check and pre-employment physical including a drug screen.

QuickBooks training

TRAVERSE CITY — Dennis, Gartland & Niergarth will host its annual QuickBooks training series beginning Sept. 19. The series features four half-day seminars, each focusing on a specific aspect of QuickBooks usage. All sessions are from 8 to 11:30 a.m. and will be held in the Dennis, Gartland & Niergarth training room, located at 415 Munson Ave. There is no charge to attend. Four sessions are planned, including:
