---- — TRAVERSE CITY — A Traverse City firm that consults on retirement planning is merging with a national business headquartered in Illinois.

I AM, Inc., Proprietor Randall Kamps, of Traverse City, confirmed the merger of his business this week with Retirement, LLC.

“I wanted to expand the business and this was one of two ways to do it; grow it generically or merge with another firm,” Kamps said. “This takes the shackles off as to whom I can serve.”

Tim Tolan, who helped facilitate the merger on behalf of Retirement, LLC., said the company is a third-party administrator for the retirement industry. He said the merger with I AM is a “good fit” given Kamps’ background and extensive work in the field.

“We felt like the company itself was very market-driven and the senior executive (Kamps) is very well-seasoned in the retirement space,” Tolan said, adding the merger gives Retirement, LLC a nice footprint in the Midwest and Michigan.

I AM, Inc. is a retirement plan consulting business that advises and assists companies with qualified retirement plans. Kamps acquired the business in 2001.

Retirement, LLC has its corporate headquarters in Northbrook, Ill. and operates from offices in Oklahoma City. It provides consulting, record-keeping and plan administration services to more than 1,400 retirement plans.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
