Area wineries awarded

TRAVERSE CITY — Thirteen northwest Michigan wineries received awards at the Pacific Rim Wine Competition on April 23 and 24. Wines from 2 Lads Winery, Forty-Five North Vineyard & Winery, Bel Lago, Black Star Farms, Blustone Vineyards, Boathouse Vineyards, Bowers Harbor Vineyards, Brys Estate Vineyard & Winery, Chateau Fontaine, Chateau Grand Traverse, Ciccone Vineyard & Winery, Leelanau Cellars and Verterra Winery were awarded.

Individual accounts orientation

TRAVERSE CITY — Northwest Michigan Community Action Agency is hosting a session on its Individual Development Account program, a savings program that matches the money individuals invest toward first home down payments, tuition or business startups. Individuals with limited income, up to $23,340 for a single person, are eligible.

Accountability workshop

TRAVERSE CITY — The Northwest Michigan Council of Governments and Michigan Small Business Development Center are hosting a box lunch business workshop called Creating a Contagious Culture of Accountability. Robyn Marcotte, founder of Aha! Leadership LLC, will speak about ideas for engaging and motivating a team.

Minimum wage presentation

TRAVERSE CITY — The Grand Traverse County Democratic Party is hosting an event at which attorney Mark Brewer will speak about the benefits of raising Michigan’s minimum wage and answer election questions. The free event will be held June 7 at 9:30 a.m. Minerva’s Restaurant.

Short’s Imperial Series beer dinner

ACME — The Grand Traverse Resort and Spa is hosting a beer and food pairing at which Short’s Brewing Company founder Joe Short and other Short’s staff will present about the brewery’s 10-year history.
