7-Eleven creates Vernors Slurpee

DETROIT — Two favorite beverages of many Michigan residents are coming together.

7-Eleven is selling a Vernors Slurpee frozen carbonated drink in more than 200 of its Michigan stores.

Vernors is a distinctive ginger ale that’s been popular in the state for a very long time. It was created by James Vernor in a Detroit pharmacy following the conclusion of the Civil War.

Today, the Dr. Pepper Snapple Group produces Vernors.

7-Eleven recently opened a Detroit location. The retailer last operated in the city in 2003.
