Bell’s Brewery to take part in festival after all

---- — YPSILANTI (AP) — A well-known Michigan brewer that had said it was pulling out of a major beer festival because of planned political fundraising at the event is back in.

The Kalamazoo Gazette reports Bell’s Brewery Inc. will in fact participate in the Michigan Beer Guild’s 16th Annual Summer Beer Festival in Ypsilanti this weekend.

After learning about the Protect Michigan Craft Beer Political Action Committee’s plans, the brewer’s founder and president Larry Bell said he found it “distasteful” to involve politics in the event.

But on Friday afternoon, Bell said the brewer and the Michigan Beer Guild reached an agreement that calls for the PAC to have a dunk-tank event at the festival.

Michigan Beer Guild treasurer Scott Newman-Bale says he’s happy to have Bell’s back on board.
