Traverse City Convention & Visitors Bureau named best in state

---- — TRAVERSE CITY — Readers of Michigan Meetings + Events magazine have named the Traverse City Convention & Visitors Bureau the best CVB in the state of Michigan.

Each year, the magazine’s readership of more than 20,000 convention and meetings industry professionals vote on their favorites in 21 categories. The Traverse City CVB was selected for this year’s “Best of 2013” award; runners-up included the Detroit Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau and Experience Grand Rapids.

Five other Traverse City entities also took top honors. The National Cherry Festival was named best event; Events North was voted best event planning company; the Grand Traverse Resort & Spa won Best Hotel with Meeting Space (over 200 rooms); Celtic Tours was named Best Transportation; and Shanty Creek Resorts tied with Crystal Mountain Resort as the best wintertime venue.

In addition, Event Design Manager Meghan Gamelin of the Grand Traverse Resort & Spa was inducted into the magazine’s 2013 Hall of Fame as Best Up-and-Coming Special Events Planner.

Several local nominees were also runners-up in a number of categories: the Hagerty Conference Center as Best Meeting/Event Venue outside of the Detroit metro area with no hotel; Shanty Creek Resorts as Best Summertime Venue and Best Service; Grandview Catering as Best Caterer; Aerie Restaurant & Lounge as Best Restaurant with private dining space; G.J. Rental as best rental company; the Park Place Hotel as Best Hotel with Meeting/Event Space with less than 200 guest rooms; the Traverse City Wine & Art Festival as Best Event; and The Floral Underground as Best Florist.
