Alta carries out expansion in TC

TRAVERSE CITY — Alta Equipment Company is expanding its reach in the northern Michigan market.

The company that rents and sells construction-related equipment is expanding with new construction at its building at 1061 Stoepke Court near Chums Corner, furthering the business’ move from a prior location on U.S. 31.

“What we decided to do is build a combo branch at the facility,” said Art Kasik, chief operating officer at Alta. ‘It’s going to be our first location that has both our construction division and industrial division.”

The Wixom-based business is one of the largest industrial and heavy equipment dealers in the Midwest. It rents and sells equipment to everyone from the average Joe to major commercial customers. Kasik said the company sees the Traverse City area market as a vibrant place to do business. It is hiring about six new employees to help fuel an expansion.

“There’s a lot of opportunity (in the Traverse City area,)” Kasik said. “If you are there with a facility like this, you avail yourself to those opportunities. There are a lot of midsized type accounts there and they are very good.”
