---- — Entrepreneur workshop

LANSING -— AARP Michigan responded to the growing number of older Michiganders who want to start their own businesses by teaming with the U.S. Small Business Administration to host an “encore entrepreneur” event in Traverse City.

The workshop will be held April 19 from 9 a.m. to noon in Scholars Hall at Northwestern Michigan College, 1701 E. Front St.

AARP Michigan and other AARP state offices this month will join with SBA District Offices and SBA Resource Partners to host more than 150 events around the country. Events include speed mentoring, which allows mentors and entrepreneurs to share information for five-minute sessions, and mentor lunches for entrepreneurs to learn best practices from successful small business owners. Garden Party

SUTTONS BAY — Plant Masters of Suttons Bay will hold their fourth Annual Garden Party with the theme of “Leap Into Spring” for the Leelanau Peninsula Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours. The event begins Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at their greenhouses on M-22 just south of Suttons Bay.

Food will be provided by Martha’s Leelanau Table, The VI Café, and Shady Lane Market. The Leelanau Peninsula Vintners Association will be pouring wine. Beverages from Leelanau Cellars, Barrels & Barrels and Northern Latitudes Distillery will also be available. Many local businesses have donated prizes including the LPVA’s donation of two tickets to the May Sip & Savor tickets to the annual wine trail event.

Nonprofit workshop

TRAVERSE CITY — NorthSky Nonprofit Network will sponsor a session for nonprofit leaders, board officers and board members on April 30 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Northwestern Michigan College University Center. The session, "Inspired Governance", will focus on how nonprofit governance is changing in order to address intensifying and complex social, legislative and economic demands.

The workshop leader is Pamela Evans, NorthSky Governance Consultant.
