People

n Robert Boeve, of Jordan Exploration; Michael Coy, of O.I.L. Energy; Kelly Miller, of Miller Investment Co.; Randall Parsons, independent; and Thomas Pangborn, of Savoy Energy, all located in Traverse City, have been re-elected to the board of directors of the Michigan Oil and Gas Association for two-year terms.

n William Leader has joined the Inland Seas Engineering land surveying department as a senior survey technician/crew chief. His work includes construction staking, boundary and topographical surveys and remonumentation at airports, roads and other commercial and residential properties.

n Ken Sams joined the staff of Inland Seas Engineering as a project professional. The focus of his work is assisting clients with air and water pollution control projects and energy efficiency projects throughout Michigan. This new position draws upon his extensive experience with accounting, environmental compliance and management.

n Smith Haughey Rice and Roegge has been ranked among the top law firms in the United States in the publication “Best Law Firms” 2014, published by U.S. News Media Group and Best Lawyers.

The publication’s tiered list ranks law firms based on both practice areas and metropolitan areas. For the northern Michigan metropolitan area, Smith Haughey received first-tier ratings in the areas of Bankruptcy and Creditor Debtor Rights/Insolvency and Reorganization Law and Trusts and Estates Law.

n The Michigan Association of Chamber Professionals recognized Carlin Smith, president, and Lisa Hoyt, membership director, both of the Petoskey Regional Chamber of Commerce, with the 2013 Michigan Chamber Professional designation. Smith and Hoyt are two of three chamber professionals from around the state recognized for achievements in professional development, service and personal contributions to organization performance. Smith is the only chamber professional in the state to have also received the designation five years consecutively.
