National sandwich shop chain eyes Traverse City

TRAVERSE CITY — A national sandwich chain is looking to expand in Traverse City.

Erbert & Gerbert’s Sandwich Shop officials said they’re planning to add 15 to 20 shops in Michigan in the next three to five years and see Traverse City as a target market.

A spokeswoman for Erbert & Gerbert’s said the company is scouting potential locations and franchise partners. The business was founded in 1988 in Eau Claire, Wis., and now has more than 70 locations in eight states in both rural and urban centers.

Growth for 2013 to 2014 is targeted for Michigan, Iowa, Colorado, Kansas, Montana, Missouri, Nebraska and Texas.

Other Michigan cities targeted by Erbert & Gerbert’s are Detroit, Dearborn, Sterling Heights, Livonia, Ypsilanti, Grand Rapids, Allendale, Kalamazoo, East Lansing, Ann Arbor, Flint, Saginaw, Mount Pleasant and Marquette.
