Young talent workshop slated

TRAVERSE CITY — The Employer Training Council will host Recruiting and Retaining Young Talent on Nov. 5 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Michigan Works Service Center, 1209 S. Garfield. The workshop will help businesses learn how to become the employer of choice in a competitive work environment.

Featured experts at the workshop include Warren Call, chairperson, Traverse City Young Professionals; Paul Corrado, corporate recruiter, Magna Electronics Engineering Center, Rochester Hills; and Bill Benson, partner, William Charles Search Group, Grand Rapids.

Registration is $35 per person and includes breakfast. Check in and breakfast are from 8 to 8:30 a.m. For more information and to register online visit nwm.org/etc.

Start up workshop

TRAVERSE CITY — Individuals considering self-employment or in the beginning stages of starting a business will have access to a wide variety of helpful information at a business start up workshop being offered in Traverse City by the Michigan Small Business and Technology Development Center. The workshop is being held Nov. 7 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Parsons-Stulen building on NMC’s Aero Park Campus.

The workshop will be taught by SBTDC business consultant Walt Muellenhagen and will help aspiring entrepreneurs assess their abilities to lead and manage a company and evaluate market and sales potential for their products or services. Start-up costs, financing options and business planning will be introduced, along with necessary steps to getting started.

June 2015 opening for Japanese garden

GRAND RAPIDS — The Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park has set an opening date for a $22 million Japanese garden on its western Michigan grounds.
