City board openings

traverse city — Traverse City residents are invited to participate in the process of government by serving on one of the city's citizen boards and committees.

Upcoming openings are available on the Board of Zoning Appeals, Board of Tax Review, Historic District Commission, Parks and Recreation Commission and the Brown Bridge Advisory Committee.

If you are interested in serving, call the City Clerk's Office at 922-4480 for an application.

Business After Hours

ellsworth — A Holiday Business After Hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, at A Matter of Taste at Tapawingo, 9502 Lake St.

The evening will feature a performance by the Harmony Hunters, hors d'oeuvres, cash bar, door prizes and networking with Chamber members and their guests.

A cash donation to benefit the Care and Share Food Pantry in East Jordan and the Good Samaritan in Ellsworth is requested.

NorthSky workshop

traverse city — NorthSky will sponsor a professional development session for nonprofit leaders, "Next Generation Organizational Design," from noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, at Northwestern Michigan College University Center Room 5.

The session will be led by Pamela Evans, NorthSky governance consultant, and will focus on how to refine a nonprofit organization's committee structure, streamline committees and improve performance.

The workshop fee is $12. Participants are invited to bring a lunch. Registration is required by contacting www.northskynonprofitnetwork.org

Temporary office

gaylord — The Gaylord Secretary of State branch, closed after a recent fire, has a temporary new home in the DNR office at 1732 M-32.

The Secretary of State's full-service mobile office has set up shop there to serve customers while the nearby branch office location is cleaned and restored. Customers also have the option of visiting nearby Secretary of State branches in Grayling and Kalkaska.

The Gaylord branch office is not expected to reopen until early December.
