Fox breaks ground on new dealership
TRAVERSE CITY — Fox Motors is breaking ground for its new BMW of Traverse City dealership on Friday, Nov. 2, at 10:30 a.m.
Located south of the current dealership, the new BMW complex will be at 2801 N. U.S. 31 South, just south of Belle Tire. The stand-alone, 17,000-square-foot facility will include a showroom with space to stage up to 10 vehicles, along with10 service bays and two enclosed service lanes.
John Cueter, director of Fox Motors' Northern Division, said the company has made a point of hiring local contractors and workers for the multi-million dollar project. Dave Whiteford of Whiteford Associates is project architect, with Mike Comstock of Comstock Construction serving as general contractor.
Completion is expected by mid-year 2013. Meanwhile, the current BMW space is being converted to make way for a new Fiat dealership opening at the end of November. Fox's Ford, Lincoln, Mazda and Mercedes operations will remain where they are.
TRAVERSE CITY — Goodwill Industries of Northern Michigan has been given an Environmental Stewardship Award.
Presented Oct. 19 by Orion Energy Systems of Manitowoc, Wisc., the award recognizes Goodwill's recent energy-saving lighting retrofit project. Traverse City Mayor Michael Estes was on hand for the event and presented Goodwill with a commendation for its partnership with Michigan-based Keen Technical Solutions, which installed Orion's high-performance lighting and Apollo Solar Light Pipes. This rooftop daylight harvesting device enables Orion's customers to go significant portions of the day without using electrical lighting.
The project enables Goodwill Industries of Northern Michigan to reduce its annual energy consumption by 159,304 kilowatt hours, which projects to an annual savings of $13,576.
