Career Kickstart kicks off today

TRAVERSE CITY — Job seekers can get free professional clothing and lots of advice on resumes and interview skills at an event today at Northwestern Michigan College.

Students in NMC’s professional communications class are partnering with the Traverse Area Human Resources Association for the Career Kickstart event at the NMC Welcome Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Professional business clothes donated by the community will be given away to job seekers who attend the free event. Volunteers also will offer resume critiques, mock job interviews and career coaching.

“We just want to help people in our area find jobs,” said Emaly Panek, social media manager for Career Kickstart and a student at NMC. “We have lots of poverty and unemployment within northern Michigan and people looking for jobs may need some help with certain skills, their resume, what to expect in an interview, or even just need some professional clothing.”

The event targets both the under and unemployed. The Record-Eagle participated by serving as one of four collection sites for donated clothes.
