TRAVERSE CITY — “How to Minimize the Risks of Online Marketing and Social Media to Your Business” will be the topic for the Business Owners Speaker Series on Nov. 14. The event will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Hagerty Center, 715 E. Front Street.
The guest speaker will be attorney John Di Giacomo, Revision Legal. Di Giacomo is an experienced business, intellectual property, litigation, and Internet lawyer.
This is the second installment of the speaker series in Traverse City. The Business Owners Speaker Series provides an opportunity to hear local business leaders share strategies and ideas that can help any business succeed.
The Speaker Series is being presented by Charter Business and the Michigan Small Business & Technology Development Center (MI-SBTDC) in conjunction with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation and the U.S. Small Business Administration.

TRAVERSE CITY — NorthSky Nonprofit Network will host a webinar, “Effective Email Campaigns,” on Nov. 7 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in three northern Michigan locations: Traverse City, Charlevoix and Manistee.
The session will be led by Derrick Feldmann, CEO, Achieve Consulting and author of “Cause for Change,” and covers how to develop an effective campaign. He will review the importance of design, content and delivery; provide examples of effective email campaigns, and discuss how to create similar campaigns.
The Traverse City webinar is co-sponsored by Northwestern Michigan College and will broadcast in room 5 at the NMC University Center Campus. The Charlevoix webinar is co-sponsored by Charlevoix Area Hospital and will broadcast at the Hospital in classroom B. The Manistee webinar is co-sponsored by the Manistee County Human Services Collaborative Body and will broadcast at the Manistee Intermediate School District in classroom A.

Sleep Out returns
TRAVERSE CITY — A group of local business and community leaders will gather again on Monday for a third annual “Sleep Out” to raise awareness and monetary donations for home heating assistance needs in the state and region. It begins at 4:30 p.m. at the Plante Moran building at 600 E. Front St. and continues through the night.
Financial contributions also can be made toward local energy assistance programs including those at the NMCAA, the Father Fred Foundation, the Salvation Army and Goodwill Industries. Donations can also be made to the Sleep Out event listing on the Chamber’s website at www.tcchamber.org.
