Conference on energy, environment set for November at Crystal Mountain Resort

---- — THOMPSONVILLE — Benzie County’s largest employer will host a November conference focusing on energy and sustainability in Michigan.

Crystal Mountain Resort & Spa will host The Conference on Michigan’s Future: Energy, Economy & Environment, from Nov. 1 to 3. Resort President and co-owner Jim MacInnes said the lineup of conference speakers will examine renewables, energy use, sustainability, efficiency for businesses, and what the future holds for energy in Michigan.

“Our goal is to bring together business and governmental and environmental leaders, along with energy experts, and get them in the same room to talk about the challenges facing our economy when it comes to energy,” MacInnes said.

Topics of discussion include:

•Renewable energy - transmission & storage.

•Energy efficiency and conservation.

•Hydrocarbon deposits - extraction, transportation, fracking, peaking & supply.

•Climate change - global warming, carbon dioxide.

•Food growth and distribution.

•Land use and urban planning.

•Economics update -. breakthroughs and findings in economic research.

Speakers will include Marija Ilic, an expert on smart grid technology; J. David Hughes, geoscientist and president of Global Sustainability Research;Stanley “Skip” Pruss, former director of Michigan’s Department of Energy, Labor and Economic Growth ; and economist Paul Isley, who will speak on Michigan’s economy and its future.
