THOMPSONVILLE — The leaders of Crystal Mountain Resort & Spa received the Michigan 2014 Hotelier of the Year Award.
Jim and Chris MacInnes received the award Monday night from the Michigan Lodging and Tourism Association. The couple was recognized at the Pure Michigan Governor’s Conference on Tourism for their contribution to the hotel industry and commitment to community.
“We are very excited and it was quite a surprise, but it takes a lot of people to support this,” Jim MacInnes said. “While we received the award, we have a lot of great people who made it all possible.”
The couple oversaw multiple additions to Crystal Mountain since the 1980s. Those additions include a golf course, a lodge, 21 ski slopes, the Michigan Legacy Art Park, an outdoor water playground, alpine slide, climbing wall and a LEED-certified Crystal Spa. They’ve also added real estate projects the Cottages at Water’s Edge and MountainTop condominiums. The resort employs more than 600 people. Jim MacInnes said he is particularly proud of the couple’s dedication to sustainability and energy conservation at the resort.
“We are very focused on reducing the consumption of energy and materials and reducing our carbon footprint,” Jim MacInnes said. “It’s an important focus of our business.”
