Vintner conference coming to TC area

TRAVERSE CITY — A statewide conference for the grape and wine industry is scheduled for late February at the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa.

The Michigan Grape & Wine Conference will take place Feb. 26 to 28. This year is the first time the conference will be held in the Traverse City area.

“One of the goals is to provide an opportunity once a year for all the winemakers, growers and others related to the industry to get together and network,” said Karel Bush, spokeswoman for the Michigan Grape & Wine Industry Council. “The other goal is to provide educational opportunities for growers, winemakers, and marketing staff at the wineries.”

More than 200 members of the wine industry are expected to attend. Agenda topics include pesticide application, defining grape and wine quality, and social media marketing tools for the industry. Notable speakers include John Martini of Anthony Road Wine Company, Todd Steiner of Ohio State University and Amanda Stewart of Virginia Polytechnic Institute.

The Grape and Wine Industry Council is part of the Michigan Department of Agriculture & Rural Development. For more information on the agenda or to register, go to www.michiganwines.com/conference.
