Chamber membership event scheduled

TRAVERSE CITY — Dozens of business leaders from across the Grand Traverse region will come together this month to lead a membership blitz for the Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber’s Membership Event is set for Dec. 17-19 and is headquartered at the Great Wolf Lodge in Traverse City.

The Traverse City Area Chamber’s first member recruitment initiative in more than a decade is part of a renewed focus on the critical role played by members on the impact and effectiveness of the organization.

The event will include two days of member recruitment by the volunteer teams on Dec. 17 and 18, and wraps up with a special celebration on Dec. 19.

Fundraising school

TRAVERSE CITY — Indiana University’s fundraising school in Traverse City, sponsored by NorthSky Nonprofit Network, will be held January 14-16.

Attendees will learn the proper way to structure capital campaigns, including pre-campaign planning, using feasibility studies, enlisting and motivating the right volunteer leadership and working effectively with a consultant. The fee is $600, a 50 percent discount.

The deadline for registration is Wednesday at 5 p.m.

Biz after hours

ELK RAPIDS — The Elk Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce December “Business after Hours” will be held Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. and will be hosted by the Elk Rapids District Library, 300 Isle of Pines. A special open house will celebrate the “Island House Victorian Christmas.”

GM gets about $343 million for PSA stake
