Tourism champions honored

TRAVERSE CITY — Three men credited with landing significant tourism events for northern Michigan were honored for their efforts.

Traverse City Tourism this week recognized Laurent Masse, Doug Mansfield and Tim Wooer as “community champions.”

Masse is director of the Traverse City Figure Skating Club. He’s credited with bringing the 2014 Tri-States Syncro Competition and the 2015 Eastern Great Lakes Regional Figure Skating Competition to Traverse City. The events are expected to attract a combined 3,900 visitors to the area.

Mansfield is Supervisor of Union Township. He was recognized for helping bring the Michigan Township Association’s Annual Education Conference & Expo, with 1,200 attendees, to the area in 2014. This will be the first time in the organization’s history the event will be held in northern Michigan.

Wooer is head football coach at Traverse City West Senior High School. He’s credited with bringing the 2013 Michigan High School State Powerlifting Championship and 2,000 attendees to Traverse City.
