Hearing planned on discharge permit

ISHPEMING (AP) — A public hearing is planned for March about a proposed groundwater discharge permit for the Eagle Mine in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

The state Department of Environmental Quality says the meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. March 25 at Westwood High School in Ishpeming. The agency plans to answer questions about the draft permit at the meeting. A public hearing also is planned.

The nickel and copper mine is located in Marquette County. The DEQ will accept additional public comment through April 1.

Details about the project are posted on the state’s website.
