-- The Home Builders Association of the Grand Traverse Area Inc. announces new leadership for 2009: president, Victor Lisabeth, Grand Bay Builders, LLC; first vice president, Rob Whims, Smith & Johnson Attorneys; second vice president, Marc Burkholder, Burkholder Construction; secretary, B.J. Stark, ProBuild; treasurer, Mike Farrer, Grand Traverse Title Agency.

-- Dan Tholen, independent statistical consultant based in Traverse City, has been appointed chairman of the Proficiency Testing Committee for the Asia Pacific Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation. APLAC is a cooperation of governmental and private laboratory accreditation bodies from 25 countries in Asia and the Americas, to provide technical support for trade agreements in the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation and similar organizations.

Acquisition

-- Paul Davis Restoration office co-owners Scott Thomas and Jason Arsenault have acquired a 4,000-square-foot facility in Midland, which will serve the Bay City, Midland and Mount Pleasant area. Certification

-- Michael A. Richey, an attorney with Dingeman, Dancer & Christopherson PLC, completed training to earn a certificate in family law from the Institute of Continuing Legal Education, a program developed in cooperation with the Family Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan.

-- Mansfield & Associates, a local engineering, planning and surveying firm, satisfied the requirement for new designs for growth and has been named a Certified DevelopMentor firm by Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce's Traverse Bay EDC.

-- Adam Beers has joined The Bank of Northern Michigan as credit supervisor. The bank is based in Petoskey and has a branch in Traverse City.

-- Walstrom Marine earned 5th place in Tiara Yacht's worldwide dealer ranking for 2008. Walstrom, a dealer of Michigan-made Tiara Yachts for over 30 years, is based in Harbor Springs, with locations in Cheboygan and Bay Harbor.

-- Tom Gartland and Rick Garner, representatives of DGN Wealthcare Advisors of Traverse City, were honored with the One Diamond Eagle award at 1st Global's National Conference. DGN Wealthcare Advisors is an affiliate of the CPA firm of Dennis, Gartland & Niergarth in Traverse City.

-- Old Mission Windows & Doors, headquartered in Traverse City, received the "Dealer of the Year" award for focused excellence in retail showroom from Window & Door magazine.

n Charlie Feguson, general manager of Northern Broadcast Inc., was included among the "Radio's Best Managers" listing released in November by Radio Ink Magazine. He was among nine small market managers selected by magazine readers. Ferguson started his broadcasting career in 1966 and has served as general manager for Northern Broadcast since September 2004.

Expansion

-- A $2.5 million renovation project is under way at Glen's Markets Gaylord location at 829 W. Main St. Improvements will include a new seating area for a Starbucks cafe slated to open in February, a remodeled Dairy Queen within the store, a new interior decor, new deli, meat and seafood cases and new produce islands. A grand re-opening will be held in the spring.
