Associations
n Board members for 2010 were elected for the Grand Traverse Area Hotel/Motel Association that represents lodging and hospitality properties in the 5-county area. Jonathon Pack, general manager of Cherry Tree Inn & Suites, was re-elected president. Jeremy Martincheck, guest services agent of Sugar and Grand Beach Resort Hotels, is vice-president. John Clouthier, general manager of Quality Inn By the Bay, is treasurer and Bobbi Jo Pyle, guest services manager of Best Western Four Seasons, is secretary.
n Sue Olson, executive director of KidzArt, joined the board of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Michigan. KidzArt is a drawing-based art enrichment program.
n Kristen A. Campbell, an attorney with the Traverse City office of Smith Haughey Rice & Rogge, was named to the board of directors of the Professional Tennis Registry Foundation. It's the world's largest organization of tennis teachers and coaches with members in 122 countries.
Certification
n Fawcett Dopke Agency/The Larkin Group has been certified as a Total Quality Agency for the 12th consecutive year.
n Village Press Inc., of Traverse City, passed a certification audit to become a Forest Stewardship Council-approved printing company. The council established standards for forestry companies, paper manufacturers and printing companies for using responsible forestry and reforestration practices.
Personnel
n Sara Klebba has been hired by Tandem Design of Traverse City as an account manager. A Michigan State University graduate, Klebba worked in automotive advertising and event marketing at BBDO Detroit. She moved to Traverse City in 2005.
n Jim Wright joined the Coldwell Banker Schmidt Real Estate office at 522 E. Front St. in Traverse City. He's a native of Traverse City, a graduate of Colorado State University and has a 20-year plus career in sales.
Presentation
n Marilyn Fitzgerald, Ph.D., a member of the board of directors of Traverse City-based Utopia Foundation, made a presentation at the 2009 Toronto Microfinance Conference on the economic and social advantages of the "Group Lending Model."
The foundation assists investors in finding sustainable projects.
Recognition
n Manpower in Traverse City recently awarded six associates the Circle of Excellence Award: Maria Belogna, Rebecca Chavalia, Jerry Councilor, Duane Dietreich, Sally Weatherholt and Somer Vipond.
n Traverse City resident Kristine Erickson was honored by the National Association of Realtors with a Certified Executive designation, recognizing exceptional efforts made by an association executive.
Erickson is one of only 14 employees at the NAR -- of a staff of nearly 500 -- to have earned the designation.
n Products from D.O.G. Bakery at 531 W. Front St. in Traverse City were featured in the Nov. 27 issue of Life & Style Magazine's Pet Lover's gift page.
n The Central Division of the National Ski Patrol honored three members of the crew at Crystal Mountain Resort in Thompsonville. Len Price received a 40-year service recognition award for his work at various ski areas in northern Michigan, while Jim Heethuis and Dan King received the Purple Merit Star Award for using outdoor emergency care skills in a life-saving incident.
The National Ski Patrol is a volunteer organization with more than 30,000 members nationwide.
