Tax program for employers to be held

TRAVERSE CITY -- An informational program for area employers on Michigan's unemployment insurance tax and benefit programs will be held Oct. 3 at the state office building at 701 S. Elmwood St. in Traverse City.

The seminars run from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and topics will include new online services for employers, employee misclassification, appealing an unemployment claim and other topics.

"These seminars are intended to acquaint employers with the state's unemployment insurance system and with recent changes at the Unemployment Insurance Agency," said director Stephen Geskey. "Experienced agency staff will be the presenters."

Chamber's weekly show starts Sept. 30

TRAVERSE CITY -- The Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce will host a weekly television show on area business topics starting Sept. 30 on Up North 2 public access television.

The 30-minute program will air on Tuesday evenings starting at 7 p.m. The inaugural show will focus on the development plan for Traverse City including the Old Town area. The Oct. 7 show is on young professionals in the area, followed by an Oct. 14 program on The Grand Vision regional transportation planning effort.

Festival begins search for director

TRAVERSE CITY -- The National Cherry Festival assembled a search committee to find a new executive director.

The committee, led by Tino Breithaupt, who heads the Traverse Bay Economic Development Corp., hired national firm SearchWide to help recruit applicants. The firm was used to hire current executive director Tom Menzel, who started in 2006 and will step down as of Nov. 1.

TCL&P seeks feedback on routes

TRAVERSE CITY -- Traverse City Light & Power will be hosting public meetings Sept. 30 and Oct. 2 to receive feedback on three different west side transmission routes presented to the utility board in August.

The meetings will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the commission chambers on the second floor of the Boardman Governmental Center at 400 Boardman Ave. Both meetings will also be televised on cable TV channel 99. Light and Power staff will present their recommendations to the board on Oct. 14.
