-- June Merrick has joined the Ford Insurance Agency of Traverse City as business development specialist. Merrick has more than 15 years of direct sales experience. She previously worked as a business banker with Huntington Bank.

-- Rockford Construction has promoted Eric Monroe to lead project management and business development efforts for its northern Michigan regional office in Traverse City. Further, Rockford will be relocating its local offices from 830 E. Front St., Ste. 203, to 4020 Copper View, Suite 225, in the Copper Ridge business and professional office complex.

-- Attorney Mark R. Mueller, a shareholder in the Traverse City office of Garan Lucow Miller, P.C., was nominated to the subcommittee of the Grand Traverse-Leelanau-Antrim Bar Assocation's Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Committee. The subcommittee evaluates applications from attorneys and makes recommendations to the ADR Committee.

-- Traverse City native Jennifer Lyon, D.O., formerly a team physician for Michigan State University, has opened a new sports medicine practice in Traverse City. nOwner Jackie Freeman has recently opened a second location of Michigan Debt Settlement at 1010 S. Garfield Ave., Suite 204, in Traverse City. Recognition

-- Karen Radcliffe, of Traverse City, independent executive director, trainer and coach for The Pampered Chef, received Top Performance Cluster for Personal Sales at the company's national conference in Chicago recently.

-- The 2006 Select Riesling from Peninsula Cellars was highlighted in the new Time Magazine "Fifty States of Wine" list and article. The Traverse City wine was one of just 12 wines in the nation to receive an "Excellent" rating from writer Joel Stein.

-- The Michigan Chamber of Commerce will recognize two area lawmakers as "Champions of Commerce" at the chamber's annual meeting and Future Forum on Sept. 16. State Rep. Howard Walker, R-Traverse City, and Rep. Kevin Elsenheimer, R-Bellaire, will be honored at the event to be held at the Kellogg Center in Lansing.

Certification

-- Matthew Mokanyk of Landtech in Traverse City was among 29 land surveyors nationwide selected to participate in a new U.S. Bureau of Land Management program called CFedS, for Certified Federal Surveyor. To earn the CFedS designation, professional land surveyors must complete approximately 120 hours of course materials prepared by the BLM's National Training Center in Phoenix, and pass the certification examination.

Acquisitions

-- Cherry Capital Connection LLC acquired Charlevoix Wireless to expand its wireless internet service network in the region. Cherry Capital also acquired Maylone Enterprises Inc. of Elk Rapids in April 2007. The acquisition will allow Cherry Capital to provide internet service in the areas of Charlevoix, Petoskey, Harbor Springs, Boyne City and the northern tip of Leelanau County. Milestones

-- The engineering firm Gourdie-Fraser Associates will celebrate its 60th year in business with a client appreciation event on Sept. 18 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the company's office at 123 W. Front St. in Traverse City.
