Downtown businesswoman honored

TRAVERSE CITY -- A downtown business owner noted for her community service in the downtown area and beyond was honored Wednesday night with the 2008 Athena Award from the Athena Grand Traverse organization.

Marcia Bellinger, owner of Belstone Gallery at 321 E. Front St., was presented with the 14th annual award at the organization's awards event held at the Hagerty Center.

A former educator at the high school and collegiate levels, Bellinger was recognized for her support of various community organizations including the local Zonta Club and the Women's Resource Center. A native of northern Michigan, Bellinger also serves on her church board and is a member of the Downtown Traverse City Association.

Bellinger was also honored for her "boundless" support for the arts locally, including her work with the Old Town Playhouse and support for local artists and numerous art exhibits.

The award was sponsored by National City Bank and licensed by Athena International.
