The resort features 19 cottages and a hotel that opened in June 1889. The resort was also listed with the National Register of Historic Places in 2003. The owner is Susan Jay Nichols. Certifications -- Five funeral directors at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, including Dan Jonkhoff, John Roeser, Rick Harkert, Dan Zolik and Adam Hilt, recently qualified for recertification of the designation of Certified Funeral Service Practitioner by the Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice. Jonkhoff is also a lifetime member of the Academy. -- Camp Arcadia, a Lutheran Christian family resort in Arcadia, received a Green Lodging Michigan Steward certification from the Michigan Department of Energy, Labor and Economic Growth. The camp received the certification through implementation of a linen and towel re-use program, a new recycling effort and installation of energy-efficient lighting. Personnel -- Shauna Fite, a longtime resident of Benzie County and active community organizer, has been named program coordinator of the Michigan Land Use Institute. -- Debra J. Hall and Kaylee Hall have joined the sales team at Remerica Real Estate in Traverse City. -- Bernadette Carney joined the sales staff at JenTees Custom Screen Printing in Traverse City. -- Plante & Moran PLLC promoted Alyson Purgiel to an associate in the accounting firm's Traverse City office. She will work in marketing, advertising, Web site development, event planning and related areas. -- Chris Chang was named a portfolio manager in the investment adviser's division of Fifth Third Bank's northern Michigan market. Renee Wyler was also hired by the bank as a mortgage loan originator. She will serve the central region of the bank's northern Michigan market and work from its Suttons Bay branch. Recognition -- Vicky Oltersdorf, a broker at Oltersdorf Realty, LLC, has been ranked in the top 1 percent for the second year in a row by the Traverse Area Association of Realtors for closed volume sales. -- Michigan State University's Michigan Political Leadership Program honored three Traverse-area people as graduating MPLP Fellows: Edgar Boettcher III, of Traverse City, president of Boettcher Masonry; Brenda DeKuiper, of Grawn, treasurer of Blair Township; and Mary Marois, of Traverse City, who recently retired from the Michigan Department of Human Services after 39 years. -- Pharmacist and business owner Jim Bock, of Traverse City, is the recipient of the Good Government Award from the Michigan Pharmacists Association Pharmacy Political Action Committee. It's awarded for outstanding civic involvement and political activity on behalf of the pharmacy business. Bock is owner, president and CEO of Whitney Health Care Services Inc. -- Light of Day Organics LLC was named Small Business of the Year for Region 2 of the Michigan Small Business & Technology Development Center. The company, owned by Angela Macke, specializes in organic and Fair Trade tea leaves and grows, harvests and dries their products on a 25-acre farm in Leelanau County. -- Blair Anderson, a financial adviser at the UBS Financial Services office in Traverse City, is among the country's top 1,000 advisers listed by the Barron's weekly financial publication in February. He is among 25 consultants in Michigan named to the annual ranking.
