Area schools on lockdown after parental threat

MANCELONA — Authorities placed five area schools on lockdown this afternoon after they said a parent threatened three children who attended some of the schools.

Antrim County Sheriff Dan Bean said a man told his ex-wife that if he couldn’t see her, he’d kill their children. One child attended Mancelona Elementary School, so Bean said the elementary, middle and high schools were placed on “outside lockdown” around 12:30 p.m. today.

The students were dismissed from the schools without any issues, Bean said.

Kalkaska Public Schools Superintendent Lee Sandy also said the district’s middle school and Rapid City Elementary were put on lockdown shortly before 2 p.m. as a precautionary measure.
