One dead in Kalkaska blaze

KALKASKA — Fire and police officials found a victim about 3:30 p.m. today inside a Kalkaska Township home engulfed by flames.

The family home on North Circle Drive off of U.S. 131 just north of the village was completely destroyed by flames that began shortly before noon, said Kalkaska County Sheriff David Israel.

Kalkaska Township Fire Chief Derek Hogerheide confirmed officials discovered a body believed to be one of the homeowners. The body won’t be moved or the victim’s name released until a state police fire inspector arrives on scene.
