Trail suspect arrested

TRAVERSE CITY — Authorities arrested a man who they believe assaulted a woman on a local trail.

Grand Traverse Sheriff Tom Bensley said the suspect was in jail late Monday. He didn't immediately have details of the man's arrest.

A Garfield Township woman was walking her dog on a section of the Boardman Lake Trail behind the Lakepointe Village apartment complex on Sept. 16 when a man came up from behind, wrapped his arms around her and tried to drag her into the woods. She was able to fight him off, run away and call police.

The man didn't say anything to the woman, and deputies aren't sure what his intentions were. The woman was shaken, but wasn't hurt.
