Two charged in Traverse City gas station robbery

TRAVERSE CITY — Authorities charged two people who they said robbed a gas station.

Fred Corey Neumann III, 22, of Traverse City, is charged with unarmed robbery and assault with intent to rob while unarmed. Jessica Annfaith Rankin, 19, of Buckley, is charged with unarmed robbery and accessory after the fact to a felony.

Police said the two were behind the Nov. 14 robbery of the Admiral station on Front and Barlow streets in Traverse City.

Neumann went into the station at about 10:30 p.m., police said. He shoved a male employee into a closet and held the door shut while he threw a backpack at a female employee and ordered her to fill it with money. She complied and he ran off.

Investigators believe Rankin planned the crime, stood nearby while it happened and spent most of the stolen money.
