GT to sue over septage plant

TRAVERSE CITY — Grand Traverse County officials today said they will file suit against those who engineered, built and managed construction of the county’s flawed, financially troubled septage treatment plant.

Members of the county’s Board of Public Works today authorized attorney Scott Howard to sue local engineering firm Gourdie-Fraser, Inc., construction firm The Christman Co., and former county attorney and project manager Michael Houlihan.

A consultant hired to investigate septage plant failings last year concluded those septage plant architects committed professional malpractice. Settlement negotiations continued through last week, but county officials set today as a deadline to either accept a settlement or file suit.
