TRAVERSE CITY — A Barn Dance benefit will be held Wednesday for Dre Joshua Winkelmann and his family.

The 14 year old has cerebral palsy and will undergo extensive surgery on his legs on Nov. 13, at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital, Grand Rapids. Although his medical expenses are covered by insurance, his parents and grandparents will be caring for him and traveling back and forth to Grand Rapids. The Winkelmann home also needs a wheelchair ramp. Travel, lodging and ramp expenses are not covered by insurance.

The fundraiser will be held at Rocky-Top Farms on Essex Road off U.S. 31 north of Central Lake. Music starts at 6 p.m. and performers include Soul Patch, the Accidentals, Shady Hill, Kellerville, and Natural Reaction. Raffle tickets are $1 each or six for $5 and food and beverages will be available to purchase.

Brain injury support

ACME — A new traumatic brain injury support group will hold its first meeting at 5:30 p..m. Wednesday at the Abby D Center, 6501 U.S. 31 North, across from the Grand Traverse Resort. For details, call 348-7777 or visit www.abbydcenter.com.

Church Women

SUTTONS BAY — Church Women United and Men will meet on Thursday.

The ecumenical outreach mission organization will meet from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Keswick United Methodist Church, 3376 S. Center Highway. Attendees are asked to bring a dish to share and table service for the luncheon and waterproof mittens for children. Community Action has asked that donors purchase the waterproof mittens found at Meijer.

Craft show

ACME — Christ the King will hold its annual Craft Show on Nov. 9.

Show hours are 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. at the church, 3801 Shore Road. In addition to items by Michigan artists and craftsmen, there will be a raffle, a bake sale and lunch with an array of soups. For details, call Pat Westbrook, 929-1830.

Love INC. concert

WILLIAMSBURG — Love INC (In the Name of Christ) will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a dinner concert featuring the Peter, Paul & Mary Remembered tribute group.

The fundraiser features the theme “The Song is Love.” It starts at 7 p.m. Nov. 9 at the Williamsburg Dinner Theater, 4230 M-72 East. The meal will be catered by Catering by Kelly’s and additional music will be provided by singer/songwriter Jane Pace.

Educational series

TRAVERSE CITY — The Nov. 12 program in the Teacher and Parent Educational Series will feature an update on ADHD in children and adolescents.

The free program will be held from 6:30-8 p.m. in the library at Central High School, 1150 Milliken Dr. It will be presented by Sander Weckstein, board certified child, adolescent and general psychiatrist. There is no charge. For details, call Northern Michigan Psychiatric Services, 935-0355.
