Seminar on trauma

Thompsonville — Centra Wellness Network, formerly Manistee-Benzie Community Mental Health, will host an educational seminar on personal trauma and its effects on mental health.

The event will be held Friday, Feb. 1, at Crystal Mountain Resort. Nationally recognized specialists will define and explain the neurobiology of trauma and detail how recovery from trauma is possible. The goal is to help build a community culture of trauma-informed practices.

'Stepping Up' event

Central Lake — Good Samaritan Family Services and churches in Atwood, Eastport, Ellsworth and Central Lake are sponsoring a "Stepping Up" video event for men to explore what it means to live a godly, courageous life.

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at the Pelican Room. Registration is $25. Some partial and full scholarships are available.

Fundraising dinner

Frankfort — Masons from the Benzie Area Lodge and Crystal Lodge and Boy Scout Troop #10 will prepare a spaghetti dinner fundraiser for Benzie Area Christian Neighbors.

The meal will be served from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 955 James St. The cost is $7 for adults, free for children 12 and younger and $20 per family.

Cards and cookies

Traverse City — The deadline to donate Valentine cookies and children's exchange Valentine cards is Sunday, Feb. 3.

The cards, minus envelopes, will go to residents at area nursing homes on Valentine's Day, while the cookies will be distributed to jail inmates.

Donations may be dropped off from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Sunday at First Christian Church on South Airport Road. For details, call 938-1387.

Advocate training

Traverse City — Court Appointed Special Advocates are needed to provide a voice in court for children in foster care.

A comprehensive 30-hour training will be offered for volunteers starting Thursday, Feb. 28. Training begins at 5 p.m. at the Robert P. Griffin Hall of Justice, 280 Washington St.

Webster joins staff

Traverse City — Bob Webster has joined the staff at Resurrection Life Church, 4376 U.S. 31 S., as executive pastor.

Webster currently is completing an associate degree through the International School of Ministry and has had extensive training in church ministry at Resurrection Life and other area churches. He also has been involved in business in the Grand Traverse area since the late 1960s.
