Chili supper benefit
LAKE LEELANAU — St. Mary School-Lake Leelanau will sponsor a chili supper fundraiser for Kris Popp, a long-time school family and employee of St. Mary School, who was recently diagnosed with bone metastasis cancer.
The Popp Family Chili Supper Benefit will be served from 4-7 p.m. Jan. 28, at the school. A freewill offering will be collected. It is being held in conjunction with an open house that is part of National Catholic Schools Week and St. Mary homecoming events. Middle school girls, JV and Varsity boys basketball games are also scheduled, with all admission proceeds benefiting the Popp family.

TRAVERSE CITY — Dr. Jill Vollbrecht will give a program titled “Living Successfully with Diabetes” on Jan. 29, at The Presbyterian Church, 701 Westminster.
Dr. Vollbrecht will review the different types of diabetes, up-to-date treatments for each type, and tips for managing the disease. She is a doctor of endocrinology and specializes in diabetes and other disorders of the hormones.
The program starts at 7 p.m. There is no charge and the public is welcome.
Free community meal
LAKE ANN — Advent Lutheran Church is sponsoring “The Table,” a free community meal on the last Thursday of each month at the Almira Township Hall in downtown Lake Ann. The next meal will be served from 5:30-7 p.m. on Jan. 30. For weather warnings or details, call the church, 275-8031.
TRAVERSE CITY — The community is invited to a “365 Challenge Celebration” on Jan. 31.
The event will be held from 4-6 p.m. at Fit For You, 1226 S. Garfield Ave. There will be wellness activities, vendors, give-aways, prizes, food and more. Participant awards will be presented at 5:15 p.m. and a program titled “Five Easy Steps to Success” will start at 5:30 p.m.
Antrim Relay for Life
BELLAIRE — Antrim County’s 2014 Relay for Life will hold a kick-off rally on Jan. 28, to launch fund-raising efforts for this year’s event.
The rally will start at 6:30 p.m. at the Antrim Community Church, 301 N. Bridge St. Current team captains and members, new participants and anyone interested in joining or starting a team is invited. Teams raise money and awareness for the fight against all types of cancer during the 24-hour event., which will be held June 21-22 at the Shaun Davies Memorial Track in Bellaire.

KALKASKA — Bear Lake Christian Church Women’s Refresh Ministry will sponsor a seminar on Feb. 1.
