Grand Rapids-based Michigan Blood has become a member of the Centers for Transfusion and Transplant Medicine.

The new alliance will enhance Michigan Blood’s ability to improve patient outcomes at the more than 40 hospitals it serves across the state. It also will help Michigan Blood restrain health care costs by achieving new efficiencies and sharing best practices.


Munson Medical Center Pharmacy Manager Terry Baumann, Pharm.D., recently received the Michigan Society of Health-System Pharmacists’ (MSHP) Professional Practice Award at the group’s annual meeting in Novi.

The award is presented to a pharmacist for his or her involvement and participation in an innovative project that contributes to professional practice. Baumann was cited for his expertise in pain management. He is recognized at the state and national level as an expert on pain management and has given numerous presentations at Michigan Pharmacists Association and MSHP meetings on pain management.


Sandra Carden, director of Union/Yoga of Suttons Bay, has announced the Union/Yoga Classic Teacher Certification graduating class of November 2013.

Graduates include Amy Kowalak of Midland and Cedar, Rebecca Thomas of Boyne City, Rebecca Reibel of Fair Haven, Mark Huizenga of Holland, Mary Frazier of Waterford, Sharron Zimmerman of Traverse City and Lexie Forcier of Gaylord.

These certified instructors have achieved proficiency in hatha yoga posture and science of breath, anatomy and physiology, classic yoga literature and history, Sanskrit language, business skills, marketing, ethics and service. The 200-hour, 28-day training was held at Solace Institute, Boyne Mountain Resort in Boyne Falls.
