The Cherryland Cares Board, which meets quarterly, awarded four grants at its June meeting.
The board is comprised of Cherryland Electric Cooperative members. Grant funds come from the cooperative’s Operation Roundup, when members choose to round their bills up to the nearest dollar.
Grants went to: the Father Fred Foundation, $3,000; STEP program for homeless teens, $3,000; the Traverse City Trinity Food Program, $1,000; and Benzie Habitat for Humanity, $850.
Digestive Health Associates in Traverse City recently recognized Kim Spiker for 15 years of dedication and service as a registered nurse with the practice.
Spiker graduated from the RN program at Northwestern Michigan College. Her responsibilities include telephone triage and Remicade infusions for patients with inflammatory bowel disease.
J. Ryan McManus, MD, has joined the Grand Traverse Ophthalmology Clinic. He will provide surgical care at Munson Medical Center and Northwest Michigan Surgery Center in Traverse City.
Dr. McManus received glaucoma fellowship training at University of Virginia’s Department of Ophthalmology, where he was a clinical instructor. He completed an ophthalmology residency at Medical University of South Carolina’s Storm Eye Institute and a general surgery internship at that university’s department of surgery. Dr. McManus also received a medical doctorate from the University of Michigan and a bachelor of science degree in human biology from Michigan State University.
