Sierra Club meeting

TRAVERSE CITY — A Sierra Club organizing meeting will be held Sept. 18 on the lower level at Horizon Books, 243 E. Front St.

The group is for individuals who enjoy the outdoors or are concerned about water and air quality and natural resources. The meeting will be held from 7- 9 p.m. and includes a discussion of local environmental issues.

Palestine program

TRAVERSE CITY — MidEast: Just Peace will sponsor a program by Randie Clawson, who spent April through July as an Ecumenical Accompanier with the Ecumenical Accompaniment Program in Palestine and Israel.

The program starts at 7 p.m. Sept. 23 at the Traverse Area District Library, 610 Woodmere Ave. Clawson will share her observations on life in Palestine and Israel and her views on the potential for peace and the end of occupation. Club marks 80 years

RAPID CITY — The Juniper Garden Club of South Torch Lake will celebrate its 80th anniversary with a potluck meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 10, at the home of Gloria Kilian, 14188 Fairmont Dr.

The club was established in 1933 and serves Rapid City and Alden. It provides educational programs and promotes environmental awareness with students at Rapid City Elementary School, has a senior therapy gardening program and tends gardens and streetscape projects throughout the South Torch Lake area.

The celebration will start at 4:30 p.m. Attendees should bring a dish to pass. The club will provide ice, ice tea, punch, table service, and salt, pepper and sugar. New members are welcome.

Choir auditions

TRAVERSE CITY — Auditions will be held Tuesday and Thursday for Northwestern Michigan College’s award-winning Children’s Choir.
