Church concert

BEAR LAKE — Mark and Andrea Forester will perform during the 10 a.m. service on Sunday at Bear Lake Christian Church on M-72. The community is invited.

Germanfest debuts

TRAVERSE CITY — Trinity Lutheran Church and School will celebrate northern Michigan’s German Lutheran heritage at its inaugural Germanfest.

The celebration will be hosted from 6:30 to 11 p.m. Sept. 13, under a tent on the grounds of the church, 1003 S. Maple St. A traditional German meal will be served, with dancing and singing to traditional music by Da Frankenmuda Fratz’n from Frankenmuth. Beer imported from the Hofbrauhaus in Munich and wine from the Rhein and Mosel valleys will be served.

Tickets are $35 each and limited to 400 adults ages 21 and older. The price includes the buffet-style dinner and entertainment. Beer and wine tokens will be sold for $6 each and are limited to three tokens per person. For tickets, call 947-8696, 631-2111 or 938-9424. For details, visit

Historical Society

EASTPORT — Char Lundy will give a lecture titled “The Development of Emergency Services in Torch Lake Township” on Monday as part of the Wilkinson Homestead Historical Society Lecture Series.

The talk will start at 7:30 p.m. at Torch Lake Township Hall on U.S. 31, three miles south of the M-88 intersection. Admission is free, but donations are welcome.

Library program

FRANKFORT — Reflections by the Bay will sponsor a free program titled “Michigan’s Ghostly Beacons” by Dianna Stampfler at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Benzie Shores District Library, 630 Main St. The public is invited. For details, call 352-4671.

Cogan in Gaylord

GAYLORD — Priscilla Cogan, PhD, will return to Saturn Booksellers in downtown Gaylord to sign her sixth novel, “Clinging to the Moon,” from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., on Aug. 24, in a sit-n-sign event.

Cogan, a clinical psychologist who married Cherokee storyteller, psychologist and Native American healer Duncan Sings-Alone, is intrigued by the cultural differences between the Lakota and Anglo spiritual perspectives, and tries to bring them to light in her novels.
