Mary VanderKolk, health occupations instructor at Northwestern Michigan College, has been appointed to the Michigan Board of Nursing by Gov. Rick Snyder. She will serve a four-year term that expires in June 2016.
VanderKolk was one of three appointments to the board, which oversees the licensure requirements and standards for nurses in Michigan. She will represent professional registered nurses with a baccalaureate degree engaged in nursing education in a licensed practical nurse program.
Neurologist Matthew Salon, MD, recently relocated his practice to 3537 W. Front St. He is accepting new patients.

West Shore Medical Center's cancer services have expanded with the July opening of a new Cancer and Blood Services Department.
The new department is located on the second floor of the Northwestern Michigan Health Centers building, 1293 E. Parkdale Ave. It fills a gap in services created with the closing of the West Michigan Regional Cancer and Blood Center in Free Soil.
