n A two-day American Red Cross blood drive was held at Temple Hill Church in Cadillac. It was sponsored by Crystal Flash Energy and Save-A-Lot.
The drive resulted in a total of 126 productive units and there were nine double-red donations. Gallon pins were awarded for new gallon levels: six gallons — Cathy Bloomfield, Lake City; eight gallons — Julie Hoag and Sandy Fauble, both of Cadillac; 11 gallons — Michelle Wiegand, Cadillac; 17 gallons — Chip Haight, Cadillac; 18 gallons — Diane Greig, Cadillac; and 19 gallons — Frank Nixon, Cadillac.
n Mark Hoch of Elk Rapids, a teacher assistant adaptive physical education with the TBA Intermediate School District, received the George A.L. Gant Award from the Northern Michigan Chapter of the National MS Society in recognition of his outstanding volunteer services and dedication to the National MS Society mission.
Mark’s involvement with the chapter was as a participant with the Bike MS Ride and he has been a member of the Top 100 fund-raisers for several years. A few years ago, he became involved with the Traverse City Walk MS Committee and was instrumental in making key changes to the route. He also helped chapter staff secure the necessary permits with the city. Always looking for ways to increase awareness about multiple sclerosis and the society, two years ago Mark signed up for the Adopt-A-Highway program and maintains a section of road with a sign reading that the section is maintained by the National MS Society, Michigan Chapter.
n Carol Bunek accepted a tribute from Rep. Wayne Schmidt, 104th District, recognizing the Pregnancy Care Center of Traverse City for its 25 years of service to moms, babies and families.
