---- — MorningStar Adventures Inc. received a $750 grant from the Cadillac Area Women’s Giving Circle, a component fund of the Cadillac Area Community Foundation.

The grant will allow women in Wexford and Missaukee counties, who meet the financial criteria, to experience a personal retreat for rest, guidance and empowerment.


Michigan Blood recognized its highest level donors as part of World Blood Donor Day. Considering that it takes eight pints to make up a gallon, many donors have made more than 250 trips to blood centers or mobile blood drives throughout the course of their donation history.

Top donors in the Traverse City region included Michael Riness, 30 gallons; Mark Wandrey, 28 gallons; Roderick Craves, Jeff Lewis and Buddy Bothwell, 27 gallons each; David Mahaffy and Lynn Perrin, 26 gallons each; and Richard Kowalczyk and Michael Rinehart, 24 gallons each.


Tendercare of Leelanau Health Center announced the appointment of Lena VanderMeulen, CTRS, as life enrichment director; Jeanne Rice, RN, as the new director of nursing; and Audrey Tezak, as the new social services director.

VanderMeulen received a bachelor of applied art degree from Central Michigan University, with a major in therapeutic recreation and a minor in management.

Tezak received a bachelor’s degree in social work from Ferris State University.

Rice has more than 19 years of experience in long-term care, most recently serving as director of nursing in a facility in Juneau, Alaska. She received an associate degree in nursing from Northwestern Michigan College and a bachelor’s of applied science degree in Allied Health Nursing from Siena Heights University.
