---- — Ride for Father Fred

TRAVERSE CITY — The Northern Chapter Harley Owners Group (HOG) will again support the Father Fred Foundation with its two-day “Ride for Father Fred” motorcycle event.

The fundraiser begins Saturday, July 20, with a multi-county “Poker Run,” with registration from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Classic Motor Sports, 3939 S. Blue Star Dr. A motorcycle show will be held from 4:30 to 8 p.m. that night along Union Street.

The main ride on Sunday, July 21, starts with registration from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Classic Motor Sports. The police-escorted processional of motorcycles travels from Classic Motor Sports to the tip of Old Mission Peninsula starting at 11 a.m. A community breakfast follows at the VFW Post on Veterans Drive.

The cost to participate is $20 for one or both days. Proceeds this year will go toward the Father Fred Foundation’s back-to-school shoes program. For details, visit

Workshop on health

TRAVERSE CITY — Performance Chiropractic will offer a “Creating Health” workshop with Dr. Donald Piche.

The free one-hour class starts at 6:15 p.m. Monday, July 22, at Performance Chiropractic, 551 S. Garfield Ave., suite B. It will focus on poor health and the steps needed to reverse the process.

Bay Pointe’s 15th

TRAVERSE CITY — Bay Pointe Community Church, 6880 Secor Road, continues its 15th anniversary celebration with services and a church picnic. The community is invited.

Former NFL player Rickey Bolden will be the guest speaker at the 9:15 and 11:15 a.m. services on Sunday, July 21. Following services, an all-church picnic and “Baptism at the Bay” will be hosted from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Traverse City Senior Center, 801 E. Front St.

Clare DeGraaf, author of “The Ten Second Rule,” will address the congregation at the 9:15 and 11:15 a.m. services on Sunday, July 28.

Vacation Bible School

TRAVERSE CITY — “Hip-Hop Hope, Jesus Makes Me Glad” is the theme for Vacation Bible School at Christ United Methodist Church, 1249 Three Mile Road.

safeTALK workshop

TRAVERSE CITY — Third Level Crisis Center will offer a safeTALK (Suicide Alertness for Everyone) workshop on Wednesday, Aug. 7.

The workshop is for community members with all levels of helping experience interested in learning practical skills to competently and confidently connect a person at risk of suicide to help. It will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at the Grand Traverse County Health Department’s new location, 2600 LaFranier Road. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m.

The $40 cost includes materials and refreshments. Some full scholarships are available for participants living in or serving Benzie County residents. Registrations are due by Friday, Aug. 2.
