---- — Salute to veterans

PESHAWBESTOWN — A concert celebration of and for area veterans will be held Sunday in the Sands Showroom at Leelanau Sands Casino & Lodge.

Local entertainers John Milks, Seth and May, Ruby John and others will perform a variety-style show from 2:30-7 p.m. A $12 donation for adults is suggested at the door. Children younger than 12 will be admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Proceeds benefit the Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 609 serving northwest Michigan.

Harp class

TRAVERSE CITY — Marilyn Wares will introduce the tranquility lap harp in a free class on Nov. 17.

The class will meet from 1:30-3 p.m. Harps will be furnished and no musical experience is needed. Registration is required. For details, to register and for class location, call Wares, 223-4895.

Hospice program

TRAVERSE CITY — Hospice of Michigan will present two free community outreach programs to help grieving individuals cope with holiday events.

Programs will be held from 2-3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Fife Lake Public Library, 77 Lakecrest Lane; and 1-2:30 p.m. Nov. 20, at the Traverse City Hospice office, 900 E. Front St. Anyone dealing with grief, whether a loved one died recently or years ago, is welcome. Presenters will share tips on dealing with grief during a time when most people are happy.

Gluten-free support

TRAVERSE CITY — The Traverse Area Gluten Free support group will meet on Thursday in room 106 at Central United Methodist Church, 222 Cass St.

Surviving the holidays

TRAVERSE CITY — DivorceCare at First Congregational Church will offer a one-session program titled “Surviving the Holidays.”

The session will be held from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the church, 6105 Center Road. It is designed to help divorced and separated individuals deal with the added pressures at the holidays because of loneliness and depression. A free-will donation is requested to help cover the cost of materials. No child care is available. For details, call the church office, 947-6698.

Memorial service

TRAVERSE CITY — Anyone grieving the loss of a loved one is invited to a community memorial service sponsored by Heartland Hospice.

The service will start at 7 p.m. Thursday at Central United Methodist Church, 222 Cass St. It will include a reading of the names of deceased loved ones and a candlelighting ceremony to celebrate their lives. Christian support

TRAVERSE CITY — Recovering by Grace, a Christian-based 12-step addiction recovery support group, meets at Friends of the Light Church, 206 S. Oak St.

The group is a nondenominational, non-judgmental support group for individuals in recovery from chemical addiction including alcohol. It meets from 7-8:30 p.m. every Tuesday. A playroom for children is available.
