TRAVERSE CITY — The Pageturners book group meets at 7 p.m. Oct. 17, at the Peninsula Community Library, 2699 Island View Road, to discuss “The Kashmir Shawl” by Rosie Thomas. Mrs. Mullen’s Closet
THOMPSONVILLE — A fundraiser will be held Oct. 26 at Crystal Mountain Resort to help fill Mrs. Mullen’s Closet for Benzie County elementary schools.
The fundraiser will feature a silent auction from 6-8:30 p.m., a cash bar from 6-11 p.m., a cafeteria-style lunch line with celebrity servers from 6:45-8 p.m., student performances from 7:15-8:15 p.m., a live auction at 8:45 p.m., and dancing from 9-11 p.m.
Tickets are $25 through Friday, Oct. 18, at all five Benzie County elementary schools, the superintendent offices at Frankfort and Benzie Central and through Crystal Mountain Resort. Ten dollars of each ticket sold will go to Mrs. Mullen’s Closet.
CADILLAC — The next Gopherwood Concert features Blake Elliott and the Robinson Affair plus The Accidentals.
The concert will be held Oct. 19 at the Cadillac Elks, on the third floor at 122 S. Mitchell St. Advance tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students at Toy Town, 122 S. Mitchell St., and at the After 26 Depot Cafe, 127 Cass St. Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for students at the door. After 26 Depot Cafe also is selling a limited number of dinner/concert tickets for $20 each, which include dinner at the cafe the night of the concert.

TRAVERSE CITY — Right Brain Brewery will celebrate its one-year anniversary “SoFo” (South of Fourteenth) on Oct. 19.
The celebration for all ages is free and will be held from 1-8 p.m. at the brewery, 225 E. 16th St. There will be an all-day indoor flea market by Goodwill Industries, behind-the-scenes brewery access, brewery games, free tours and special events at Salon Saloon. Art Rapids artists
ELK RAPIDS — Art Rapids, a nonprofit arts organization, is accepting applications for new works of art to be installed in the Walk of Art Sculpture Park.
Walk of Art opened in Elk Rapids Day Park with six sculptures. Additional works will be added each year to a maximum of 30 sculptures, with each piece on display for up to three years. Six to 10 new sculptures will be selected to be installed in May.
Selected works should demonstrate the intimate connections between art and the natural world. Accepted artists receive a stipend of $500 upon completed installation. The application deadline is Nov. 1 and decision letters will be mailed by Nov. 15. Completed works will be installed May 1-20, 2014.
