Ryan Maddox of Williamsburg was among the 479 members who graduated from the AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps.
The graduates completed more than 500,000 hours of service and more than 275 projects including 78 disaster recovery projects through AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps. Maddox started his term of service on Oct. 9, 2012, at the NCCC Southwest Region Campus in Denver.

Sander Kushner, DO, of Suttons Bay was awarded the 2013 Distinguished Service Award by the Michigan Association of Osteopathic Family Physicians at the annual Summer Family Medicine Update in August.
The award is presented to a family physician who exemplifies the highest quality of dedication to the profession and the promotion of the profession in Michigan.
Dr. Kushner graduated from the Des Moines College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1960 and has been in family practice for more than 50 years. He has been working in the Leelanau County area for 10 years and retired on Dec. 29, 2012.
